A dependent is a person who relies on another family member as their primary source of income. The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has limited the definition of ‘dependents’ to your spouse and dependent children who are on your sponsorship. However, dependents generally include any family member that is on your sponsorship (including parents).

Who’s responsibility is it to insurance a dependent?

In Dubai the law states that employers must provide health insurance coverage to their employees, but not to the employee’s dependents. It is the sponsor’s responsibility to ensure that their dependents are provided with medical insurance.
